The Overton Brooks VA Medical Center (OBVAMC) consists of one VHA tertiary care facility and three (3) community based outpatient clinics serving Veterans in twelve (12) Louisiana parishes, eleven (11) counties in Southern Arkansas and nine (9) counties in East Texas. The medical center is classified as a Clinical Referral Level 1C Facility which accepts referrals from the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Healthcare System located in New Orleans, LA and the Alexandria VA Health Care System located in Pineville, LA. OBVAMC is a teaching hospital providing a complete range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology, as well as education and research. Comprehensive health care is provided through primary and specialty care in the areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, and geriatrics. Duties

The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (MSA) serves as a Clinic Clerk and has a vital role in the daily operations in the following areas: Specialty Clinics, Primary Care-Patient Aligned Care Teams (PACT), the Mental Health-Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) Teams, Nuclear Medicine and the Urgent Care-Emergency Department/Fast Track Teams.

As an Advanced MSA your assignments at this level includes, but are not limited to:

·         Scheduling appointments, cancelling, re-scheduling patients appointments that are treated in the Emergency Department, preparing for clinic visit (wrist bands and labels for collected specimen);

·         Performing enrollment/eligibility, completion of means/copay tests, verifying insurance and updating patient demographics through patient registration;

·         Performs ancillary requisition to include X-rays, CT Scans, MRIs, EKG and labs;

·         Processing all emergency and non-emergency transfers to other VA facilities or private hospitals;

·         Performing receptionist duties, customer service and administrative support in a clinical setting and maintains other duties as assigned for the proper and timely treatment of patients;

·         Adjusting appointment times, location, or dates as well as shift patients to other healthcare providers as conflict with staffing and/or coverage occurs.

·         Works collaboratively in the PACT interdisciplinary coordinated care model. Participates in team huddles and team meetings to manage and plan patient care, setting priorities and deadlines, adjusting the flow and sequencing of work to meet team and patient needs. Provide input and problem solving on operational issues or procedures, performing follow-up to administrative needs of the Veteran.

·         Coordinates with the patient care team to review clinic utilization, clinic capacity, missed opportunities, VetLink management, management of the Electronic Wait List (EWL) and other related reports.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
