    The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) provides comprehensive diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic health care service to patients and family members of all ages. The APN reports to the designated supervisor of the department.

    The positions are located at Northern Navajo Medical Center, Shiprock, New Mexico, Four Corners Regional Health Center, Teec Nos Pos, Arizona, and Dzilth-Na-O-Dith-hle Health Center, Bloomfield, New Mexico. There may not be immediate vacancies at all locations.

    The IHS is required by law to give absolute preference to qualified applicants who meet the Secretary of the Interior's definition of Indian for appointment to vacancies within the IHS in accordance with established IHS policy as outlined in the Indian Health Manual Part 7, Chapter 3.     Responsibilities

    • Provide comprehensive diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic health care to patients and family of all ages;
    • Perform basic physical assessments; perform special screening and developmental tests and laboratory tests and interprets results;
    • Provide direct physical and psychological medical care in emergencies; provide emergency services or crises intervention in the absence of the physician including life-saving emergency procedures in order to stabilize the patient;
    • Provide health care and preventive services to healthy individuals including guidance in nutrition, common illnesses, accidents, child growth and development, and child rearing.
    • Teach patients and family members ways to maintain or improve their health status; make referrals for home visits when indicated to implement a care plan based on family needs.
    • Plan and coordinate health care given with other professionals; maintain patient records and reports.
    • Participate in planning, instituting, evaluating and revising program plans, assist in determining conditions, resources and policies of delivery of health care services.
