    Responsibilities

    The ARPN is academically and clinically prepared to perform a board spectrum of patient care services at the expert level. The primary responsibilities of the APRN is to provide primary psychiatric care, via medication management, to Veteran adults on the BHIP team. Care includes assessment, diagnosis, treatment and outcome measures of healthcare problems. This includes but is not limited to:

    1. Initiating and adjusting therapeutic regimens
    2. Performing histories and evaluations
    3. Ordering diagnostic and therapeutic tests/studies
    4. Initiating consults and referrals
    5. Prescribing medications/supplies in accordance with VA policy, VA Formulary, State regulations and scope of practice.

    In addition to providing psychiatric/substance abuse treatment, the APRN serves as a consultant to both nursing, as well as
    medical staff for patients with complex treatment or care needs. They work collaboratively with other interdisciplinary team
    members in providing quality care, and patient education, participating in research activities, and assist patients in acute and
    chronic rehabilitation techniques. The APRN services on medical center, VISN, and/or national committees and assists in the
    development, evaluation and communication of policies and standards of advanced nursing practice.

    Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Tour of duty is generally 8:00 am - 4:30 pm within the regular work
    week with the exception of holidays. The hours may be extended to meet patient needs/service goals to include hours prior to
    8:00 am and after 4:30 pm and to staffing clinics on Saturdays.

    NOTE: Candidate must be willing to work weekends, irregular work hours, and extended hours. The candidate must be willing
    to be placed, detailed or temporarily assigned to other related services and/or locations, if necessary.
