Summary

Vacancy Identification Number (VIN): 1893010

OUR MISSION: To fulfill President Lincoln's promise – "To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan" – by serving and honoring the men and women who are America's Veterans. How would you like to become a part of a team providing compassionate care to Veterans?

The William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center (VAMC) opened in 1932 at its current location. Dorn VAMC has 204 skilled nursing beds, which includes acute medical, surgical, psychiatric, and long-term care. The hospital provides primary, secondary, and some tertiary care.

Dorn VAMC is a complex teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology, education, and research. Comprehensive health care is provided through primary care, tertiary care and long-term care in areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, cardiology, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics, and extended care.

Dorn VAMC is accredited by The Joint Commission and by the American College of Surgeons and the Commission on Accreditation for Rehabilitation Facilities. Laboratory and Pathology services are accredited by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists.

Columbia, South Carolina, is a wonderful place to live and work. A small-town atmosphere within a metropolitan city, Columbia is known for its museums, restaurants, and the University of South Carolina. Columbia offers four-season outdoor activity with several championship golf courses in the area and is a short drive from the mountains and the beach. Columbia is located near a 50,000 acre lake with boating and recreational opportunities and is also in close proximity to the premier Atlantic Ocean beaches and mountains.

Duties

The WJB Dorn Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) is recruiting a Non-Invasive Cardiologist in the fast-growing Dorn Heart & Vascular Center.  Special training or interest in CHF is required.  Cardiac catheterization will not be part of the practice of the selected cardiologist, who will spend the majority of his/her time in the management of CHF patients. The possibility for building a practice that utilizes newer invasive modalities exists. Spacious stress testing labs with new nuclear cameras offer all modalities for the investigation of cardiovascular disease.  In addition, the Medical Center houses 2 MRI systems, and 2 multi-slice CT systems to allow development of a robust cardiac imaging program.  There is a very active cardiovascular research effort at basic science and clinical/translational levels, as well as a busy teaching service.  Significant extramurally funded cardiovascular related research programs are well established within USC-SOM in the areas of cardiovascular development, vascular biology and hypertension, signal transduction, and inflammation.  In addition, excellent biomedical instrumentation core facilities, and new laboratory space are available, and development of a fellowship program is in progress.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00A.M. - 4:30P.M. with weekend and night coverage, as necessary.  Subject to change based on agency need.
Functional Statement Title/#: Physician, Non-Invasive Cardiologist/544
