Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS) Mental Health Service provides a full range
of mental health services including general adult psychiatry, geriatrics, forensics,
psychosomatic medicine, substance abuse sub-specialty services, trauma
services, psychosocial rehabilitation and recovery programs, comprehensive
homeless programs, peer support services, opiate replacement programs, Mental
Health Intensive Case Management, vocational rehabilitation programs,
domiciliary based programs and inpatient programs. There is ongoing active
research in addiction psychiatry, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Disaster
Psychiatry, mood disorders, and homelessness. Clinical training programs exist
for medical students, psychiatry residents and fellows, clinical psychologists,

As the Chief
of Psychiatry (Medical Director) Mental Health Service, the incumbent will work
with the Associate Chief of Staff for Mental Health (ACOS-MH) and the Mental
Health Administrative Officer (AO), is responsible for the overall operation of
the Dallas MH Outpatient clinics and maintains oversight of the Acute MH
Inpatient Psychiatric team. The incumbent will oversee clinical psychiatry
operations, including budget and fiscal management, human resource management,
strategic planning, and program development. Assurance that clinical and
administrative functions are integrated in order to provide optimum utilization
of available resources will ensure the quality and timeliness of the services
provided, customer satisfaction, as well as compliance with standards of accrediting
bodies such as The Joint Commission/CARF etc. The incumbent supports and is
responsible for inspiring, motivating, and guiding the VANTHCS MH
multidisciplinary teams in achieving strategic goals and plans of the service.
He/she collaborates with other supervisors in the Mental Health Service Line as
well as non-Mental Health managers (Chief Medical Officers, Service chiefs and
program managers), in fulfilling responsibilities.

Function as a provider in the respective specialty
maintaining responsibility for the overall psychiatric care of patients with
conditions requiring treatment which includes consultative, prescriptive and
ordering authority in the outpatient setting.
Make provisions for psychiatric care in the
outpatient setting including diagnosis, management, and follow-up of psychiatric
patients, review and make recommendations for transfer to a tertiary care
center when appropriate.
Ensure the quality and timeliness of the services
provided and collaborates with referring providers.
Serve as an attending physician to medical
students and psychiatry residents.
Provide leadership and accountability for all
aspects of psychiatric care at VANTHCS.
Utilize data to formulate both short and long term
strategic goals for the product line, implementation of general policies, standards,
and goals consistent with the mission of VHA and in compliance with applicable
Monitor and ensure efficient and appropriate
operation of the product line.
Manage all personnel aspects of the Psychiatry
Service, and collaborate with the ACOS-MH to ensure effective operation of the
overall Mental Health Service.
Work Schedule: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday - Friday.
