    Responsibilities

    The New Mexico VA Health Care System is seeking a Chief of Social Work Service to join the team! The Social Work Chief for the New Mexico VA Health Care System (NMVAHCS), a Level 1A high complexity VA facility and provides extensive primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary care in outpatient, inpatient, residential, and community settings. The Chief, Social Work Service has full responsibility for provision of complex Social work services requiring advanced practice skills. Incumbent is a full-time administrator for social workers within the medical, surgical, HCHV, and TCM Program including subordinate supervisory social workers. Incumbent has full responsibility for program management, education, human resource management and supervision, and organizational stewardship for all social work programs. Incumbent is responsible for overall professional practice, clinical practice of all social workers within the healthcare system, totaling over 100 FTEE. The NMVAHCS serves as the primary network site for specialty services, with a variety of clinical programs with a wide range of acute activities providing inpatient and outpatient services and treatment for patients in general medicine and surgery, medical specialty programs, geriatric and extended care, psychiatry, RRTP, PRTP, SATP, SCI Hub, palliative care, hospice care, home-based primary care, community care, and various other ambulatory care programs with related research, educational and program evaluation functions. The position requires that the employee travels to the various sites within the healthcare system, and to other VA facilities, Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN), or VACO as necessary.

    The Chief is responsible for defining the mission and vision of the Service, designing a service plan of care and assuring implementation of quality improvement measures. Incumbent has responsibility developing the scope of practice for all social workers, establishing a credentialing and privileging process, and quality assurance program as related to all social workers. The incumbent is responsible for developing, planning, clarifying, administering and managing Social Work Services for the medical, surgical and geriatrics sections of the healthcare system. The Chief makes independent professional decisions and recommendations. The incumbent serves as the liaison to other Services or care-lines, other facilities, VISN 18 and VHA Central Office. This position also serves as liaison with Veterans Benefits Administration Offices, other government agencies, and the community. The incumbent is responsible for advising management of specific clinical or administrative issues related to Social Work Service, the profession of Social Work and within the NMVAHCS. The position serves as a consultant, mentor, and advisor to subordinates, peers and administration.

    Tour of Duty: Monday thru Friday; 8:00am to 4:30pm, off tour coverage as needed to support Veterans Care.
