    Responsibilities

    Tour of Duty: Monday through Friday 0800-1630 (May involve evenings or weekends as needed to increase access)


    Functional Statement Title/#: Clinical Pharmacy Specialist/Psychiatry - Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act (VACAA)

    This position has been identified as part of the Veterans Access, Choice, and Accountability Act of 2014 (VACAA), also know as the "Choice Act".

    Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Psychiatry has full responsibility to develop, organize, and manage all aspects of clinical psychopharmacy practice for CTVHCS. Integrates pharmacy programs into CTVHCS Psychiatry care by providing leadership and guidance to Psychiatry, Pharmacy, and Nursing Services staff. Develops and manages innovative approaches to such services as patient monitoring, patient counseling, physician consultation, and medication management clinics. Assists in the design and independent and collaborative research within the Psychiatry program and supports research activities utilizing pharmacologic agents. Serves as an authoritative source of information about drugs, their use in therapy, and their toxicities. Interfaces with physicians and treatment teams in the design of the veteran's drug regimen to provide optimal pharmaceutical care. Evaluates drug literature by analysis of experimental design and methodology in order to compare and contrast therapeutic regimens and roles for new drugs. Psychiatry Specialist will perform the following functions by leading and coordinating staff pharmacists in provision of these services: Designs therapeutic regimens, plans, and protocols based on patient specific data, including the establishment of therapeutic endpoints, defining outcome measures, selecting appropriate therapies, and establishing appropriate dosage regimens. Monitors and assesses therapeutic and adverse effects of drug therapy through selection and evaluation of physical and laboratory parameters. Provides appropriate therapeutic options based on patient target symptoms and history. Monitors patient progress through participation on treatment teams and rounds and creates patient database for future reference. Provides consultative services for physicians regarding psychiatric patients. Provides highly specialized education, training support, and leadership to pharmacists and other professionals in the area of psychotropic medications. Precepts and trains residents, students, interns, or other medical center trainees.

    Preferred Experience:An American Society of Health-System Pharmacists (ASHP) accredited specialty residency in Psychiatry, Board Certified in Psychiatric Pharmacy (BCPP)
