    Position is located in the Mental Health Services Department of the Gallup Indian Medical Center. The position is to function as a part of the Adult Psychiatry Department but also participates in adolescent and family referrals of the Child Psychiatry Department.

    The IHS is required by law to give absolute preference to qualified applicants who meet the Secretary of the Interior's definition of Indian for appointment to vacancies within the IHS in accordance with established IHS policy as outlined in the Indian Health Manual Part 7, Chapter 3.     Responsibilities

    -Provides a full range of psychological services including evaluation, diagnosis, referral, psychotherapy, and specialized treatment modalities for mental health problems of adults, adolescents and families.
    -Administers psychological tests.
    -Provides and coordinates crises intervention services to physical and/or sexual abuse, suicide and other serious emergencies.
    -Works with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) problems.
    -Consults with schools, courts, state social services, a center for multihandicapped adults and other organizations.
    -Provides consultations to a wide variety of hospital staff (especially Emergency Room) about mental health matters.
