    Responsibilities

    This vacancy is for a position as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist with the Radiology Service of the Kansas City VA Medical Center.

    Major Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

    · Technologists may rotate shifts on nights, weekends, and holidays without supervision and are responsible for making on the spot decisions regarding patient care and procedures. They may pull on-call duty as required.

    · Provides one-on-one training to rotating student technologists and direct/indirect instruction to Radiology residents.

    · May be authorized to complete limited timekeeping tasks and/or critical exam-scheduling alterations as the Acting Supervisor as designated.

    · Performs the full spectrum of radiographic and fluoroscopic examinations.

    · Sets up the x-ray room appropriately.

    · Prepares and administers contrast material.

    · Documents procedures appropriately.

    · Follows all VA/department guidelines, protocols, policies, practices, and infection control standards.

    · Performs procedures such as: G.I. examinations, tomography, cholangiograms, and hip pinning in operating suite, intravenous pyelography, arthrography, ERCPs, and routine diagnostic procedures.

    · Surgical procedures include but are not limited to: Abdominal Aortic Aneurism repair, laminectomies, cholangiograms, retrograde pyelograms, cystograms, pacemaker placement, hip pinnings, and placement of other foreign materials used in aligning or repairing body parts.

    · Pages Radiologist appropriately for all intra-operative radiographs performed.

    · Ensures speedy response to stat and urgent exam requests.

    · Transfer and position patients safely and accurately.

    · Properly identifies patient and patient images.

    · Processes film plates using CR system. Performs quality control of the images, assessing for proper exposure, positioning and annotation.

    · Operates computerized diagnostic fluoro equipment, automated developing film systems, and computerized record systems.

    · Replenish section stock items/supplies at the end of each shift.

    · Maintains annual training requirements, and pursues continuing education activities to stay current in techniques and maintain competency.

    · Reviews labs and medical history of patients for their ability to tolerate the exam and for possible side effects.

    · Determines technical factors, positioning of scans, etc., to produce and satisfy requirements of Dexa scanning.

    · Verified regions of interest (ROI); evaluates quality of measurements for problems due to artifacts, pathology, etc. and recommends additional scans as necessary. Flags values that require physician's attention and archives results

    · Ensures all images are sent to PACS/VISTA Imaging without case editing errors.

    · Protects sensitive data in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations.

    Work Schedule: Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 8:30 am - 5 pm. May be subject to on-call and weekend/holiday rotations.
