    The VA St Louis Health Care System is a 2 campus, full-service tertiary referral center providing advanced inpatient and ambulatory care in medicine, surgery, psychiatry, neurology, and rehabilitation, as well as over 65 subspecialty areas, including the VA's busiest interventional cardiac program, interventional radiology and radiation oncology.

    DUTY STATION: The duty station is at the John Cochran Division however, the duty station may be changed to one or multiple associated VAMC locations within the metropolitan St. Louis, MO area based on the needs of the medical center.

    Responsibilities

    Employees at this grade level are qualified to provide services in Diagnostic Radiology in areas of radiologic technology and/or general radiologic technology services. Performs technical work in support of diagnostic radiology under the direction of a physician. Operates radiology equipment, fixed and mobile, as part of the diagnostic plan for patients. Supports radiologist or other medical officers to produce radiographic studies used to diagnose medical conditions.
    FUNCTIONS INCLUDED, BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

    • Receives request or instructions for procedures. Interprets requests or instructions from radiologist or medical officers.
    • Secures the confidence and cooperation of patients during procedures. Explains procedures, positions patients for desired results, and cushions and shields patients as appropriate.
    • Operates computerized radiography, digital radiography, as well as conventional radiology equipment.
    • Performs procedures such as general diagnostic exams, ER exams, portables, and performs procedures in the surgery suite with portable equipment and c-arms.
    • Performs procedures such as bronchograms, cholecystograms, cholangiograms, urethrograms, G.I. series, and barium and air contrast barium enemas, and therapeutic injections.
    • Schedule patients for examinations. Registers patients for examinations and updates status as necessary.
    • Captures radiographs, applies an algorithm, configures the image and verifies patient information before transmitting them to the picture archive system.
    • Maintains proper supplies needed for exams.
    Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm and Monday - Friday, 11:00 am - 7:00 pm
