    Responsibilities

    This vacancy is for a position as a Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist (MRI) with the Radiology Service of the Kansas City VA Medical Center. As a Certified Diagnostic Radiologic Technologist the incumbent is required to perform difficult imaging procedures in the Magnetic Resonance Imaging Scanner. This will include post-procedure 3D reconstructionsfor the Radiology Service at this complex medical center. Additionally, the DRT performs Super Conductive Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Scans to include: Spin Echo, Fast Spin Echo, Inversion Recovery, EPI, 2D and 3D TOF MRA's MRV's, and 3-D Reconstruction procedures.

    Major duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

    ·         Ensuring sterile supplies, contrast media and other materials are set up and readily available prior to the scan(s).

    ·         Selecting and setting correct parameters and protocols for each examination prior to scanning.

    ·         Monitoring, observing, and assisting patient(s) within the MRI Suite.

    ·         Adjusting technical factors by accessing the computer and responding with input that will result in optimal parameters for pulse sequences, slice profile, etc. for each examination.

    ·         Performing and monitoring safety checks on patients, employees, and visitors to comply with known standards regarding ferrous objects and contra-indicated medical devices prior to those person(s) entering Zones lll and lV.

    ·         Coordinating with radiologist(s) to determine the most ideal parameters to best visualize specific anatomy or pathology for each individualized patient procedure(s).

    ·         Interviewing patients for demographic accuracy and patient education prior to procedure. 

    ·         Positioning the patient within the MRI unit, monitoring patients during all phases of appropriate examination(s), and removing patient from the respective system upon completion of the data and/or imaging acquisition(s).

    ·         Administering contrast media and medications under the direction and supervision of the staff radiologist(s) and conferring with the radiologist(s) to establish requirements with reference to contrast agents, vital signs, medications, and physiological monitoring.

    ·         Assisting physicians and other employees in the development and execution of procedure manual(s) and in devising and modifying procedures as necessary to include research protocols.  

    ·         Assisting and developing training programs for new technologist(s), physician(s), resident(s), and general clinical staff in Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

    Work Schedule: Intermittent/PRN. Various tours. May be required to work shifts with short notice (leave coverage for evening, night and weekend shifts.
