    Summary

    VA TEXAS VALLEY COASTAL BEND HEALTH CARE SYSTEM
    The VATVCBHCS is comprised of the Corpus Christi Outpatient Clinic (CCOPC), Corpus Christi Specialty Clinic (CCSC), Harlingen Outpatient Clinic (HOPC), Health Care Center at Harlingen (HCC), Laredo Outpatient Clinic (LOPC), and McAllen Outpatient Clinic (MCOPC). The VATVCBHCS is an ambulatory health care system providing health care in medicine, surgery, psychiatry, and rehabilitation medicine. The VATVCBHCS also operates a 100-patient Home Based Primary Care program and a 200-patient Care Coordination Home Tele-Health Program. Through the utilization of inpatient/emergency department contracts, approximately 2600 inpatient admission and 5800 ER visits are managed by VATVCBHCS. Affiliated with the University of Texas Regional Academic Health Campus, the system has an active ambulatory care program and serves as a teaching and training site for medical residents. The VATVCBHCS is responsible for an enrollee population of over 30,000 veterans and 350,000 outpatient visits annually.

    Responsibilities

    *** Non-Bargaining Position ***

    The incumbent serves as the Health Systems Specialist (Credentialing and Privileging) located within the Human Resources Management Office, VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System, in Harlingen, Texas. 

    • Knowledge of VHA Handbooks and Directives, VetPro Policies/Standard Operating Procedures, and local medical center policies related to the principles, practices and program goals of the credentialing and privileging program.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of basic principles, provisions and practice of credentialing and staffing and accreditation and regulatory issues such as The Joint Commission, Office of Inspector General/Combined Assessment Program (OIG/CAP).
    • Must have knowledge and the ability to apply basic principles of VHA Handbook 5005, Staffing, VHA Handbook 1100.19, Credentialing and Privileging; VHA Handbook 1100.18; Reporting and Responding to State Licensing Boards; VHA Handbook, 1100.17, National Practitioner Data Bank Report, VHA Handbook 2006-067, Credentialing and Health Care Professionals.
    • Must have comprehensive knowledge of VetPro policies including but not limited to VetPro Data Integrity, Current Appointments and Sharing Files, Facility Security Awareness and Training, and Facility Level Access control.
    • Knowledge of the relationship between Quality Assessment and Improvement (QA&I), Risk Management, and Credentialing and Privileging functions.
    • Knowledge of and skill in interpreting and applying technical QA&I, Risk Management, and Credentials/Privileging data, regulations, policy statements, and other guidance materials.
    • Skill in applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to issues or studies concerning the efficiency and effectiveness of the credentialing and privileging operations and toward the planning and accomplishment of a variety of difficult and complex work assignments, such as advising leadership on documentation requirement for provider profiling and competence, and OPPE and FPPE Communications skills and ability to communicate complex and highly technical information to a diverse and regional customer group.
    • Knowledge of the contacts required for verification of information in health care provider files.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of medical terminology, medical specialties and core privileges and procedures to assure competence/appropriateness of credentials and privileging requested.
    • Knowledge of English grammar, spelling punctuation, syntax, and required formats necessary to prepare official correspondence, documents, and minutes.
    • Skill in using software applications such as word processing and data bases and internet database applications for data entry, file maintenance and data retrieval.

    Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (Alternate schedules may be necessary to meet the needs of the organization.)
