The Augusta Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center is a two-division Medical Center that provides tertiary care in medicine, surgery, neurology, psychiatry, rehabilitation medicine, and spinal cord injury. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Location of position:  Downtown Division, Eye Clinic (Ophthalmology), Surgery Service Line

Position Description Title/PD#:  Health Technician (Ophthalmology), #14076-A  

  • The primary duties of this position are to assist in the care and treatment of a wide variety of Ophthalmology outpatient, inpatient and clinic consultations.
  • Provide central visual acuity and basic keratometry measurements, spectacle neutralization color vision evaluates using Ishihara color plates, manual tangent screen, Goldman and automated Humphey, Octopuss etc., visual field testing.
  • Perform under the supervision of the Ophthalmology specialized testing with Scanning Laser Ophthalmoscope, Doran Maculoscope, Tonopen and ophthalmic cameras.
  • Performs refractions to evaluate patient need for visual correction utilizing the phoroptor.
  • Adjust, adapts and operates specialized equipment and accessories needed for difficult procedures.
