VA Connecticut Healthcare System was officially formed in 1995. We serve veterans in Connecticut and southern New England. The West Haven facility is a tertiary care facility classified as a Clinical Referral Level I Facility. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology and a renowned research program. Comprehensive health care is provided through primary, acute, tertiary and long-term care in areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics and extended care. Newington is an ambulatory care center that provides primary and specialty care. In addition to our main campuses, we operate six community-based primary care centers throughout the state.

This position is located in the Dental Service of the VA Connecticut Healthcare System (VACT) at the West Haven Campus. The incumbent will serve as the Lead Dental Assistant. May approve brief periods of leave, provide training to staff dental assistants, students and/or trainees; may recommend special advancements and promotions, disciplinary actions, etc.  Duties may include, but are not limited to: 

·         Works with the supervisor or Dental Service Chief to monitor and make work assignments provide input on performance, resolve daily workplace issues, and maintain efficient flor of patient care.

·         Facilitates team or unit processes by working collaboratively with team members or employees to endure that tasks are completed.

·         Serves in staff dental assistant positions independently performing more complex work in assigned specialties in lead dental assistant positions. 

·         Assist with job specific initial orientation.

·         Maintains patient confidentiality per HIPAA with written and verbal information.

·         Trains team members, students and volunteers in the accomplishment of task or projects.

·         Reports to the supervisor on individual performance, progress, and training needs of employees, and on performance problems.

·         Follow all Standard Operating Procedures and demonstrated proper infection control procedures;

·         Follows computer security regulations;

·         Monitors function of dental equipment and request repairs or replacement.  Prepares electronic work orders and monitors completion.

·         Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am-4:30 pm
