    Responsibilities

    The incumbent functions as a licensed marriage and family therapist. The licensed marriage and family therapist serves as a member of a multi-disciplinary Vet Center Team and is responsible for coordinating and providing family counseling services I the Vet Center.  THE LMFG conducts assessment interviews, develops treatment plans and provides treatment to eligible veterans and their families.  Treatment modalities may include crisis intervention as well as both short and long term services.  THE LMFT may refer clients to other programs and professionals to include The VA Medial Center or Outpatient Clinic.  Participates in and provides the consultation to other team members;  participates in conjoint emergency treatment with medical facility mental health personnel.  at  the Vet Center is to provide counseling services to combat veterans and family members of the Vietnam era, World War II, Korea, Lebanon, Panama, Grenada, Persian Gulf, Global War on Terrorism; bereavement counseling to parents, spouses and children of Armed Forces personnel who died while in service to their country and family members of Reservists and National Guradsmen who die while on duty are included; active duty, reservists and veterans who provided direct emergency medical, mental health, mortuary or unmanned aerial port services to personnel involved in combat operation or hostilities; and, those who were sexually assaulted/harassed during their military service who have not achieved adequate readjustments after their military service.  Readjustment counseling includes individual and group counseling to veterans and family members over issues of Post traumatic Stress Disorder and related psychological difficulties, marital and family issues, substance abuse, employment, military sexual trauma, homelessness, bereavement, and other issues impacting upon a veteran's ability to successfully re-enter civilian society.  This task is accomplished in collaboration with other members of the Vet Center or other interdisciplinary treatment teams both within the Department of Veteran Affairs or with other community/government social services agencies.

    Major duties include but is not limited to:

    - Screening/Assessment - The independently conducts intake and needs assessments of veterans and their significant others.

    - Treatment Planning/Goal Setting - The incumbent is responsible for developing comprehensive and unique goal-directed treatment plans that reflects a course of therapeutic intervention.

    - Clinical Counseling - The incumbent provides individual, conjoint, family and group therapy,

    - Outreach - The incumbent will conduct outreach to identify program eligible veterans and their family members, promote the use of the Vet Center services and present educational programs about combat veterans, the Department of Veteran Affairs and Readjustment Counseling Services.

    - Crisis Intervention - The incumbent will provide crisis intervention, stabilization and follow-up to veterans and significant others.

    - Administrative Responsibilities - The incumbent will provide clinical case consultation and assistance to all Vet Center staff on highly complex cases and preforms administrative tasks assigned by the Vet Center Director.

    - Professional Competency/Education - The incumbent will provides instruction/training and consultation in assessing and counseling combat veterans with PTSD to VA Medical Centers, private sector mental health agency professionals and others on combat veterans and PTSD .

    - Referrals- The incumbent will develop and determine appropriate community referral resources in the VA and private sector and will refer veterans and their family members to those available resources.

    Work Schedule:Primary: Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. some evening hours required and a possibility of working on some weekends.
