The incumbent serves as a clinic patient advocate by answering patient inquiries and resolving patient concerns at a local level. He/she acts as patient advocate to assure appropriateness and quality...acts as a patient guide and advocate, assisting the patient in seeking information, assuring that the patient has the opportunity for informed consent for treatment decisions, and promoting our core I CARE values: to act with Integrity and Commitment, to Advocate for Veterans, to show Respect to all, and to pursue Excellence.

Duties

The Licensed Vocational/Practical Nurse (LVN/LPN) is assigned to the Acute Psychiatry or Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (RRTP) and functions as a team member under the guidance of the Registered Nurse. He/She must be self-directed and able to function with minimal direction. Incumbent is responsible for completing clinical reminders and medication reconciliation, providing medical assistive care and administrative support when needed. Demonstrates flexibility in taking assignments and complete a comprehensive system of tasks that are specific to the unit. The incumbent must demonstrate the ability to observe, identify and respond to the patient's needs for nursing care, including, but not limited to medical administration, wound care treatments, EKG meter downloading, specimen collection, various urologic procedures, suture and staple removal, capillary blood glucose testing, equipment assisted care and be able to recognize deviations from normal. The LPN/LVN is also responsible for patient education and documentation. He/She performs age appropriate care, uses techniques to appropriately de-escalate disruptive patients.
