    Responsibilities

    The Northeast Ohio VA Healthcare System is recruiting for a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The LPN will function in WCT-6 for Nursing Psychiatry Service. The LPN duties include:

    • Providing direct patient care to individuals in various forms of psychosocial recovery.
    • Preparing and administering medications.
    • Collaborating with the Registered Nurse in the assessment and planning of care.
    • Functioning with minimal supervision.
    • Participating as a team player.
    • Maintaining the clinical environment according to environmental and safety standards.
    • Providing health and wellness education in one on one and in group format.
    • Communicating effectively with the Registered Nurse and other health team members.
    • Documenting care timely and appropriately.
    • Possessing the ability to participate in Prevention and Management of Disruptive Behavior techniques.
    • Recognizing and responding appropriately to signs and symptoms of medical and behavioral emergencies.
    • Knowledgeable of safe body mechanics, wears personal protective equipment (PPE), proficient in safe patient movement uses mechanical lifts appropriately with correct harness and requests assistance with patient care when needed.
    • Competent in using equipment and technical procedures in the assigned area such as: glucose-meters; respiratory equipment, other related equipment.
    • Responding promptly to patient requests for assistance.
    • Knowledge of life safety, fire, and occupational regulations and responding to environment, medical and psychiatric emergencies appropriately.
    • Providing nursing care for adults with population specific needs by incorporating pertinent physical, psychosocial and cultural needs into the patient plan of care.
    Work Schedule: Full-time night tour 11:30 pm - 8:00 am with occasional rotation to day and evening tours as needed. Rotation of weekends and holidays.
