    Responsibilities

    The incumbent serves as Supervisory Marriage and Family Therapist on the multidisciplinary team that is located in a community-based Vet Center that provides veterans with community outreach, counseling, therapy, treatment and direct services and referral to VA and community resources and community education regarding the problems and needs of the veteran. The incumbent maintains an office in the Vet Center and will work in cooperative collaboration with other team members and with professionals, paraprofessionals, volunteers and others in VA facilities and community agencies to help veterans recognize and resolve their problems and needs.

    As a Supervisory Marriage and Family Therapist, the incumbent's primary responsibility is to provide clinical and administrative leadership, management and supervision of all Vet Center staff and all other professional, paraprofessional and nonprofessional staff assigned to work at the Vet Center and to plan, develop, implement, coordinate, monitor and evaluate all treatment services of the Vet Center. Duties include but are not limited to:

    • Performs the administrative and personnel management function relative to staff supervised. Establishes guidelines and performance expectations for staff, which are clearly communicated through the formal employee performance management system.
    • Observes workers' performance; demonstrates and conducts work performance critiques. Provides informal feedback and periodically evaluates employee performance. Resolves informal complaints and grievances.
    • Develops work improvement plans, recommending personnel actions as necessary. Provides advice and counsel to workers related to work and administrative matters.
    • Conducts interviews and counseling with clients and provides social/psychological assessment and treatment to clients; crisis intervention and both short and long term services.
    • Refers clients to other programs and professionals.
    • Provides guidance and consultation to other team members conducting interviews, counseling, and therapy.
    • Refers cases requiring outpatient or inpatient treatment to the VA Medical Center or Outpatient Clinic or appropriate referral services.
    • Responsible for establishing, maintaining and conducting outreach activities with veterans, community and service organizations, business and industry, professionals and the public.
    • Provides indirect services to target groups through advocacy work and negotiations with other service agencies.
    • Possesses knowledge and skills and maintains service responsibilities. Possesses and effectively implements specialized knowledge and skill in working with veterans, with their families and with their potential resources in the community.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    Work Schedule: 8:00am-430pm some evening hours required
