Duties

The incumbent participates in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including left and right heart catheterizations, percutaneous coronary and peripheral interventions, cardiac structural studies and therapeutic procedures.  The technician will assist in these procedures by preparing a sterile field, circulating during cases, charting into electronic medical records, performing as a scrubbed assistant, and transporting patients.  The technician will operate X-ray equipment and ensure proper archiving of images.  The incumbent operates under the supervision of the Cardiology Nurse Manager, Lead Technician and attending physician, and is responsible for day-to-day operational duties, including but not limited to:

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory maintaining records, equipment maintenance and calibration of rapidly changing technology and equipment.
  • Participates in the training of physicians, students, and other technicians so that these individuals may acquire an understanding of the principles of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Maintains adequate supplies so that procedures are not delayed due to the lack of necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Utilizes computer skills in documenting patient notes and other service work, including necessary reports.
  • Maintains and submits in a timely manner statistics and other required reports.
  • Advises referring physician of significant abnormalities that would require their immediate attention.
  • Required to have an on-call rotation that is 24 hours per day on Sat/Sun and Federal Holidays and after normal business hours Monday-Friday.  This will be placed on a rotation based upon staffing needs of the unit and having adequately trained staff available for emergencies.
  • Supply staffing coverage for electrophysiology lab (EP) as needed.

Work Schedule: 7:00 a - 3:30 p (rotating tours, and on-call)
