    John Cochran Veterans Affairs Medical Center was awarded accreditation in Adult Transthoracic, Adult Transesophageal and Adult Stress Echocardiography by Inter societal Accreditation Commission (IAC) on 8/9/2017. This is major milestone in our pursuit of excellence in the field of Echocardiography. We are pleased to become second IAC Accredited Echo Lab in the entire Veterans Affairs Medical Centers after West Roxbury VA Medical Center, which is affiliated with Harvard Medical School and Boston University School of Medicine. Duties may include, but are not limited too;

    • Ability to produce quality images and Doppler frequency shift recording using M-mode, two-dimensional, pulsed and continuous wave Doppler spectral display, and color flow Doppler imaging.
    • Ability to perform complementary echocardiography examination to include stress echocardiography and transesophageal echocardiography.
    • Ability to apply independent judgement during examination to ensure that appropriate anatomical, pathological, and clinical conditions are accurately captured in the examination images. This is to include the uses of bubbles and contrast agents.
    • Recognizes sonographic characteristics of normal and abnormal tissues, structures, and blood flow to detect stenotic and incompetent valves, chamber enlargement, and pericardial effusion; and cardiovascular studies deriving pressure gradients across obstructed valves.
    • Ability to adapt transducer position, instrument controls, and examination techniques to the individual patient being studied and the problem being evaluated to optimize image quality and diagnostic information.
    • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with employees at varying grade levels.
    • Follow departmental assist scan protocol and acquire additional ultrasound imaging as needed to facilitate optimum diagnostic results for the interpreting physician
    Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30am to 4:00pm
