    Responsibilities

    Duties: Position is located in the Sterile Processing Service, VHA St. Louis Health Care system. Duties may include but are not limited to:

    • Reprocess a full range of Reusable Medical Equipment (RME) including those used in the operating room.
    • Prepares and selects the correct method of processing RME based on the Spaulding Classification System.
    • Receives contaminated supplies such as instruments, powered devices, and equipment from the operating rooms and clinics.
    • Inspects items for damage and insures they are in good working order.
    • Determines correct method for cleaning, high-level disinfection and sterilization of various instruments using manufacturers guidelines.
    • Removes contaminants by manual cleaning, ultrasonic and mechanical decontamination methods.
    • Loads, monitors performance for quality control, tests and operates reusable equipment such as ultrasonic cleaners, instrument flushing devices, washer-disinfectors, drying devices, etc.
    • Receives sterilized trays, sets and packs from sterilizers and accurately interprets indicators to demonstrate correct exposure to various sterilization methods.
    • Stocks sterile items on shelves or delivery carts using a first in, first out method of rotation

    This position is part of the bargaining unit.
    This position is covered by FLSA.

    Work Schedule: Rotating, to include weekends and holidays.
