The Crescenz VA Medical Center - Philadelphia is a complex 1b tertiary care facility consisting of acute inpatient beds and long term care beds.  The organization has robust education and research programs and offers treatment for 40 different American Medical Associations recognized medical specialties and sub-specialties including Medicine and Surgery, Intensive Care, General Psychiatry, Substance Abuse Treatment, Long Term Care (Nursing Home Care Units) and Residential Rehabilitation Inpatient Program. The medical center is a teaching facility and is affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and over 50 other colleges and universities.  The organization consists of the main Medical Center, three Community Based Outpatient Clinics, one clinical and administrative annex, a Community Living Center and a 40 bed Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Program.

A Medical Technologist performs, evaluates, interprets, correlates, and validates the accuracy of laboratory procedures and results. Testing procedures are performed on a variety of biological specimens and/or environmental samples using manual or automated techniques, and require  a broad exercise of independent judgement and responsibility with minimal technical supervision. The work to be performed will be in immunohematology (blood banking).

Duties include:

  • Performs a broad range of laboratory procedures including all testing and tasks of the medical laboratory technologist occupation.   
  • Evaluates and solves problems related to collection and processing of biological specimens for analysis.
  • Maintains and documents the optimal functioning of laboratory equipment.
  • Answers inquiries regarding test results, methodology, test specificity, test sensitivity, and specific factors, which influence test results.
  • Communicates effectively and courteously while working as a healthcare team member.
  • Organizes work and sets priorities to meet deadlines.

Work Schedule: 8:00am-4:30pm (every other weekend)
