VA Connecticut Healthcare System was officially formed in 1995. We serve veterans in Connecticut and southern New England. The West Haven facility is a tertiary care facility classified as a Clinical Referral Level I Facility. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology and a renowned research program. Comprehensive health care is provided through primary, acute, tertiary and long-term care in areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics and extended care. Newington is an ambulatory care center that provides primary and specialty care. In addition to our main campuses, we operate six community-based primary care centers throughout the state.

VA Connecticut is seeking 2 full-time Medical Technologists (Generalists) in our Path and Lab Service.  These positions will be filled at the West Haven campus of VACT Healthcare system.  Duties include but are not limited to:

·    Evaluates the suitability of the specimen for analysis, requesting new specimen if determined to be unusable

·    Prepares specimens for analysis, insuring that the physiologic state of the specimen properties is maintained

·    Selects, performs, evaluates and monitors the performance of test procedures using manual and/or instrumental techniques in accordance with established protocols

·    Conducts quality control procedures on equipment, reagents, and products and maintains proper records for quality control reports

·    Calibrates, standardizes, adjusts and maintains instruments

·    Verifies correct instrument operation using established procedures and quality control checks and monitoring

·    Evaluates the validity of data in relation to the test system and accepted assay procedures

·    Performs additional tests to clarify or confirm abnormal patient results

·    Recognizes abnormal results that require immediate attention by the physician and report them directly

Work Schedule: Monday- Friday/ 3:30pm- midnight with rotating weekends and holidays as needed.
