Duties

VA Portland Health Care System (VAPORHCS) is a Level 1A major interdisciplinary teaching and tertiary facility with service-lines serving primary care, emergency medicine, medicine, surgery, specialty, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics and extended care inpatients and outpatients throughout Oregon and Southwestern Washington. In addition to the two main divisions located in Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington, VAPORHCS operated nine community based outpatient/outreach clinics (CBOC) and is a consulting and referral center for may patient care specialties not offered at other VHA medical centers within VISN 20. There is a large outpatient psychiatric population, with admissions for medical co-morbidities. VAPORHCS operates a Community Resource and Referral Center (CRRC) which serves homeless Veterans in downtown Portland. The CRRC has a Homeless Patient Aligned Care Team (HPACT) co-located and offers primary care medical services to homeless and formerly homeless Veterans. Home-Based Primary Care nursing care is also provided throughout the VAPORHCS catchment area.

Role of the Nurse Assistant Manager (Operating Room):

Serves as an assistant with line authority to the unit Nurse Manager in providing leadership, supervision, and direction to nursing staff. Performs delegated duties, i.e., develops time schedules, completed performance evaluations, and initiates or recommends disciplinary actions, responsible for performance improvement, customer service/patient satisfaction, patient and employee safety, employee relations, standards of care and practice, the work environment, and accreditation and regulatory standards. Actively develops and manages collaborative partnerships with physicians and other clinicians.

The Operating Room (OR) Assistant Nurse Manager will provide support in management, leadership and direction for the operating rooms and several procedural clinics. The OR Assistant Nurse Manager works closely with the OR Clinical Managers, and the Associate Chief Nurse Executive to define, support multiple aspects for the efficient management of these areas. Assists in processes for the recruitment, selection and hiring of high quality staff to our programs. Implements appropriate and safe staff patient rations and helps determine appropriate staff mix to provide quality care in a cost-effective manner. Assures staff utilize processes for evaluations, procurement and cost-effective use of supplies and equipment, including coordination of activities with Supply Chain Management. Forecasts, briefs and makes recommendations regarding resource needs/issues to the Nurse Managers. The OR Assistant Nurse Manager coordinated activities across clinical programs, other product lines and disciplines (e.g., Imaging, Pharmacy, and Pathology). Demonstrates tact, diplomacy, negotiating skills, and a high level of critical thinking to meet the demands of a diverse, dynamic organization. The OR Assistant Nurse Manager promotes sound education/staff development programs. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 6:00 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.; variable as needed for patient care.
