The VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS) is seeking aPsychiatric Nurse Practitioner for the Behavioral Health Service. The patient population and age group served are ages young adult through geriatric.

The APRN is a registered nurse with advanced education and experience that applies specialized clinical nursing knowledge and skills to patient care as well as in the improvement of the quality of care provided by others. An APRN independently provides theory and research-based care to clients facilitating attainment of health goals, works with nurses to advance nursing practice to improve outcomes cost-effectively, and/or provides clinical expertise to affect system-wide changes in organizations to improve programs of care. The APRN provides advanced levels of direct care as defined by the board and assists other nurses and health professionals in both establishing and meeting health goals for individuals and populations of patients. The APRN may function in a variety of roles, including patient advocate, consultant, educator, administrator, researcher, and/or direct patient care. The APRN collaborates with other disciplines to develop, implement, and coordinate a system of patient care delivery that improves quality of care, patient satisfaction, positive outcomes, appropriate utilization of resources and cost efficient services.  The APRN may be assigned to paneled teams and/or to provide the necessary direct patient care needs including coverage for other providers.

The APRN, is a registered nurse with advanced education, specialty certification in psychiatry, and experience who cares for a specific population of behavioral health patients in a variety of settings. These settings include, however, are not limited to, primary care clinics, specialty clinics/programs, extended care programs, community-based outpatient clinics, inpatient care, and ambulatory surgery programs. The APRN provides a unique approach to mental healthcare that allows the incorporation of traditional nursing skills as well as advanced practice skills in the care of behavioral health patients. These skills enable the APRN to anticipate and implement preventive health measures with a strong emphasis on patient/significant other/family education as well as assessment, treatment and management of Veterans with mental health issues.

The APRN is proficient and demonstrates competency and the ability to either set up or reprocess Reusable Medical Equipment as applicable for all equipment for which he/she has been trained. Familiarizes self with how their activities impact VA's goal to implement sound stewardship practices that are protective of the air, water, land, and other natural and cultural resources. 

Work Schedule will include nights, weekends and on call
