    Responsibilities

    This position provides supervision, leadership and direction for the primary care providers, clinical leaders and administrative support staff located at both the Danville VA Medical Center, and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) and assigned to the Ambulatory Care Service line. That service line includes primary care services, Urgent Care, Compensation and Pension and Employee Health. The incumbent must possess a broad spectrum of clinical and administrative knowledge which provides the ability to manage a primary and ambulatory care program, specifically with regard to veteran and staff customer satisfaction, quality of services provided, and efficiency of service delivery. The ACOS for Ambulatory Care is responsible for planning, developing, implementing, managing, and refining a comprehensive patient management, clinical support, and administrative program which provides services and technical counsel necessary to meet clinical, procedural, legal and administrative requirements relating to the care and treatment of outpatients to achieve maximum utilization of patient care resources in a cost-effective, efficient, and timely manner.

    • Champion programs to support Patient Centered Care with an emphasis on the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model.
    • Participate as a member, lead or champion of process improvement teams, leadership committees such as Executive Committee of the Medical Staff, Patient Aligned Care Team Steering Committee, Clinical Executive Board, Clinical Guidelines Committee, etc.
    • Develops and administers a formal, systematic performance plan for reviewing, appraising and continuously improving each phase of clinical, clinical support, and administrative activity.
    • Responsible for assuring services provided by this Medical Center and its satellite clinics meet the standards set by accrediting agencies which govern the quality of care for this Medical Center, to include, but not limited to Joint Commission, the OIG, SOARS, etc. In conjunction with other Service Chiefs, Peer Review Committee, Medical Executive Committee, and CEB, the incumbent works to assure any issues and deficiencies are corrected according to standards and then maintained.
    • The operation of this Medical Center includes educational affiliations with local Universities and sharing agreements with outside entities. The ACOS for Ambulatory Care will work closely with these entities in providing residents and trainees with the staff support necessary to integrate them into the Medical Center organization and its patient care programs.
    • Initiate and supervise the hiring of new primary care physicians and other providers; oversee the quality of care and performance of primary care providers across all delivery methods associated with primary and urgent care practices.
    • Ensure appropriate primary care provider workload, efficiency, productivity, and patient access is met to include institutional benchmarks for clinical care delivery.
    Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
