    The Service Chief is responsible for the leadership and direction of a newly reorganized service that includes Geriatrics, Extended Care, Physical Medicine and Rehab (PM&R), and Pain Management services in support of the Kansas City VA Medical Center and its mission. This encompasses the planning, organizing, directing and controlling of the integrated programs and applicable performance measures. The scope includes the supervision of a variety of healthcare professionals including, but not limited to, physicians, nurses, therapists and administrative professionals in the service.

    The Service leadership team includes a Physician Service Chief, as well as a Chief Nurse who has shared reporting responsibility to the Service Chief and Associate Director of Patient Care Services (Nurse Executive).  Decisions are made exercising wide latitude and independent judgment.  The incumbent reports to the Chief of Staff, but largely operates on a day-to-day basis in an independent manner, with full responsibility to keep the supervisor apprised of activities and any issues that require close collaboration. The incumbent serves as one of the principal clinical advisors to the Chief of Staff for the overall scope of the Geriatrics, Extended Care, PM&R and Pain Management services.

    Scope of service includes oversight and supervision of care provision in the following areas:

    1.    Geriatrics Clinics

    2.    Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation – including PT/OT Services, Chiropractic Services and Interventional Pain Management

    3.    Speech Pathology

    4.    Extended Care Programs (State Veterans Home Program, Contract Nursing Home Program, Purchased Skilled Home Health Care, Homemaker Home Health Aide/Respite Care Programs and Adult Day Healthcare)

    5.    Home-Based Primary Care (HBPC) and the Medical Foster Home Program

    6.    Home Telehealth

    7.    Hospice and Palliative Care

    Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
