    The VAMC in Memphis, TN consists of one main campus located at 1030 Jefferson Avenue, which includes a 60-bed Spinal Cord Injury Unit, and nine community based outpatient clinics (CBOC). It is a tertiary care facility classified as a Clinical Referral Level I Facility and one of the most complex medical centers in the VA system. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology, as well as extensive education and research programs. Comprehensive primary, secondary, and tertiary health care is provided in areas of medicine, general cardiovascular and neurological surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, spinal cord injury, neurology, oncology, dentistry, and geriatrics. Specialized outpatient services are provided through general, specialty, and subspecialty outpatient clinics including a women's health center. Services are available to more than 206,000 Veterans living in a 53-county tri-state area (Tennessee, Arkansas, and Mississippi).

    Responsibilities

    This position is located within the Ambulatory Care Service at the North Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC).The incumbent in this position is responsible for clinical duties in the Outpatient clinic setting.  The duties include (but are not limited to):

    • Managing a panel of patients utilizing the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) model, achieving performance measure goals,
    • Supervising Mid-level practitioners (including Peer chart review, assisting in performance evaluations, mentoring, and collaborating)  
    • Assisting in performance appraisal on support staff working in the clinic;
    • Interfacing with other medical staff and health care professionals in the medical center in regards to Primary Care.

    Primary care includes assessment, diagnosis, treatment and outcome measures of healthcare issues, histories and physicals, ordering diagnostic and therapeutic tests/studies, initiating consults and referrals, and prescribing medications/supplies in accordance with VA policy, VA formulary, state regulations and scope of practice.  Executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex patient care.

    Will serve as Chief Medical Officer for the VA Community Based Outpatient Clinic in completing PACT training, new provider training and OPPE/FPPE with medical staff; provides clinical opinions related to complaints.  Will report to the Chief, Primary Care and Specialty PACT.

    Work Schedule:  Monday - Friday8:00 am - 4:30 pm ; schedule can vary due to workload
