Cheyenne is at the crossroads of I-80 and I-25, and only 90 minutes north of Denver. With a population of 62K, Cheyenne serves as the northern anchor city of the vibrant Front Range region of the Rocky Mountains. Wyoming offers a laid-back lifestyle, no personal income taxes, low sales tax, and reasonable property taxes. We are near metro Denver, Ft Collins and have seemingly endless outdoor opportunities for hiking, fishing, hunting, and popular ski areas in Colorado, Wyoming and Utah within easy driving distance. The Cheyenne VA Medical Center is a Level 2 facility, providing primary and secondary inpatient services in medicine and surgery as well as outpatient services in medicine, surgery and psychiatry.

 

 

Duties

The Cheyenne VA Medical Center is seeking a Chief of Staff with proven executive leadership skills who can lead change and build upon the strengths of our current clinical services.

The Cheyenne VA Medical Center operates a Primary Medical Center providing care with 22 authorized inpatient beds, 3 ICU beds and a 50 bed Community Living Center that incorporates Short-Term Rehabilitation and Hospice Care. The Cheyenne VA Medical Center has Community Based Outpatient Clinics in Greeley, Colorado, Fort Collins, Colorado and Sidney, Nebraska. The Community Based Outpatient Clinics provide outpatient primary care, behavioral health as well as specialty clinic services.  Telehealth care is provided in Rawlins, Wyoming and at several mobile sites. Our patient population is over 24,000 patients from three states and 19 Counties in Wyoming, Colorado, and Nebraska.

The Chief of Staff (COS), who reports to the Medical Center Director, is a full member of the Executive Leadership Team and is responsible for providing leadership of the clinical care, with an emphasis on promotion of access to high quality health care for veterans as well as patient safety.  As the physician executive, the COS is actively involved in leadership and management of resources, organizational performance improvement, patient and employee satisfaction, environment of care and strategic planning.  In collaboration with the Medical Center Director, the Chief of Staff assists in the development, organization, implementation and support of patient care, and medical education of the clinical and allied health services.  To carry out these responsibilities, the COS formulates and recommends plans for a comprehensive program of medical care. The COS develops the requirements of staff, facilities, equipment and supplies needed to carry forward such an integrated program, utilizing necessary reviews and controls. Appraise the effectiveness of the various medical programs in meeting the needs of patient care. The COS develops and maintains current accepted management practices throughout the organization.  The COS may serve on VISN Committees, as well as in other various network assignments.

Leadership:

Directs the medical staff governance, by-laws and credentialing and privileging;

Ensures all patients receive high quality, efficient, timely and appropriate care with the highest professional and ethical standards and quality of care;

Ensures the highest level of performance by Medical Staff members through appropriate delineation of clinical privileges, ongoing performance evaluations, orientation and use of continuous quality improvement practices.

Credentialing and Privileging:

Authority and accountability of credentialing and privileging as Chair of the Professional Standards Board and the Clinical Executive Board.

Interprets regulatory and legal issues, monitoring medical staff and other licensed independent practitioner's compliance and quality of practice;

Initiates appropriate actions such as discipline, revocation or suspension of all or selected individual privileging.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week, however, physicians are on call 24/7.
