The Deputy Chief of Staff is accountable to the Chief of Staff of the Southern Arizona Veterans Affairs Health Care System (SAVAHCS) in Tucson, Arizona. The Deputy Chief of Staff is responsible for the management and operation of all clinical programs and services as directed by the Chief of Staff. Clinical services presently under the direct supervision of the Deputy Chief of Staff include Care Coordination and Telemedicine, Education, Training and Development and the Mental Health Care Line. Additional supervisory duties will be assigned as necessary and appropriate by the Chief of Staff.

SAVAHCS provides comprehensive health care through primary care, tertiary care, and long-term care. Expertise is available in medicine, surgery, diagnostics, psychiatry, rehabilitation and transitional care, a community living center, a polytrauma network site, home-based primary care, research, dermatology, endocrinology, rheumatology, neurology, hematology/oncology, infectious diseases, pulmonary, renal, cardiology, dentistry, prosthetics, audiology, respiratory therapy, pastoral care, and detox. We have 7 community based outpatient clinics located in Casa Grande, Green Valley, Safford, Sierra Vista, Northwest Tucson, Southeast Tucson, and Yuma, Arizona.

The preferred applicant has an extensive record of leadership as a clinician and educator and exceptional health care operations and financial management abilities in a tertiary care setting. Knowledge of Joint Commission and other accrediting bodies is essential. Research experience is a plus. As a member of the Executive Leadership team, the preferred applicant must be a skilled interpersonal communicator and have the ability to promote medical staff excellence as well as meet performance measure goals while utilizing the most cost-effective methodology.  Preference will be given to applicants who are Board Certified. SAVAHCS is the major affiliate of the University of Arizona. Therefore, the selected candidate must be eligible for an academic appointment at the associate or full professor level.
