    Responsibilities

    The Oklahoma City Veterans Affairs Health Care System is seeking full time staff Psychiatrist(s) for a general psychiatric acute care ward for the Psychiatry service, which is affiliated with the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
    These psychiatrists' positions have clinical vacancies for outpatient management, inpatient management and telemental health responsibilities. The incumbent will work with a multidisciplinary team consisting of other psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric social workers, psychiatric nurses and psychology technicians.

    Psychiatrist interested in becoming a member of the PC-MHI team are assigned to provide co-located collaborative care to promote effective treatment of common mental health conditions in the primary care environment (e.g. mild to moderate depression, problem drinking, anxiety, adjustment disorders). Responsibilities include screening and assessment, diagnosis, pharmacological interventions, individual counseling, and consultation with PACT team to address treatment needs. The incumbent will provide consultation and direct care for outpatients manifesting a wide variety of serious psychiatric and psychosocial problems; responds to emergency consultation requests from the admission area and from other clinics in the medical center.

    Psychiatrist interested in in-patient care shares the case load management of a 25-bed general psychiatric acute care ward with the medical director and other psychiatrist. Duties include maintaining accurate records on each inpatient and his/her progress, authorizing leave, discharges, and transfers. The incumbent will be responsible for informing the on-call physician after hours of any special problems that might be anticipated while also authorizing and documenting reasons for special procedures limiting the freedom and movement of any of the inpatients. The incumbent will need to inform the unit medical director, Chief of Psychiatry Service, or the hospital director of special problems in patient care which might require administrative review or action. The incumbent will participate in team meetings and formulation of the multidisciplinary treatment team approach for each patient, as well as, prepares and facilitates the implementation of appropriate follow up after patient's discharge from the Health Care System. The incumbent will be required to complete discharge summary and signs within two business days of discharge.

    Psychiatrist interested in out-patient or telemental health positions are expected to possess strong clinical skills to provide treatment for a range of mental health disorders relevant to Veterans, and will provide a wide range of care including - high risk assessment and referral; intake/diagnostic and assessments; comprehensive treatment planning using patient centered and recovery-based models; evidence-based individual, group, and family therapy services to Veterans and their families; and case/care management services.
    The staff tele-psychiatrist primary duties involve carrying a tele-psychiatry caseload and providing consultation to other mental health and non-mental health clinical programs. This Tele-psychiatry position provides Mental Health services to Veterans via telemedicine technology. Reviews all reports, laboratory procedures, and consultations and assures appropriate action is taken.
    Outpatient management has clinical responsibilities and works with a multidisciplinary team consisting of other psychiatrists, psychologists, psychiatric social workers, psychiatric nurses and psychology technicians.
    The incumbent must qualify for academic appointment to the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences in the College of Medicine at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.

    The incumbent will rotate with other physicians on a monthly roster for weekend/holiday coverage, and week night backup for residents; and through affiliated institutions, may participate in education and training of psychiatry residents, medical students, psychology interns, and allied health trainees. As time permits, may participate in research projects. May be assigned to various programs within Psychiatry Service depending on fluctuating staffing patterns and workloads.

    Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM, rotating nights and weekends may be required.
