    The VA Sheridan Health Care System in Sheridan, Wyoming, is seeking a board certified physician to serve as the Chief of Staff (COS). This executive position is multi-faceted and fully responsible to the Director for patient care and education. Key qualities include leadership, strategic planning, matrix-teamwork building, quality improvement, system redesign, and credentialing and privileging. Responsibilities include supervision and shared leadership of clinical operations. VA Sheridan Health Care System is part of VISN 19, the VA Rocky Mountain Network. The medical center has 185 operating Beds: 10 acute medical, 10 acute psychiatry, 40 intermediate psychiatry, 85 domiciliary, and 40 nursing home care. We have Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) located in Casper, Gillette, Powell, Riverton, Rock Springs, Afton, Worland, and Evanston. The veteran population we serve extends primarily to veterans from Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, Utah and Idaho. VA Sheridan has limited medical school affiliations and no surgical programs.

    This position may be filled with a Board Certified Physician or Psychiatrist.

    The COS must be a board certified physician or psychiatrist. The COS must be a skilled interpersonal communicator, have the ability to promote cost-effective medical staff excellence, and meet performance goals in a collaborative and team-based executive leadership model. The COS will be a practicing clinician who is able to demonstrate good vision and leadership skills. The incumbent understands the need for and demonstrates the ability to provide responsive leadership and teamwork.

    The COS is fully responsible to the Medical Center Director for programs of patient care and for the educational and clinical services. To carry out these responsibilities, the COS: (1) Formulates and recommends plans for a comprehensive program of medical care; (2) Develops the requirements of staff, facilities, equipment and supplies needed to carry forward such an integrated program, utilizing necessary reviews and controls; (3) Appraises the effectiveness of the various medical programs in meeting the needs of patient care. The COS chairs the Medical Executive Board, the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff, and is a member of the VISN Executive Leadership Council. The COS may be assigned to other VISN level committees. To carry out these broad professional programs, the COS develops and maintains currently accepted management practices throughout the Clinical Services. The Chief of Staff develops and presents the budgetary requirements of the Clinical Services and assists in the formulation of the annual budget program. Knowledge of The Joint Commission and other accrediting bodies is essential.
