The Veterans Health Administration is establishing a national telestroke program to increase Veteran to acute stroke care by using mobile technology to rapidly link stroke specialists to VA emergency department. VHA is seeking neurologists with demonstrated experience and excellence in treating patients with acute stroke as well as other neurological disorders, to serve as consultant stroke neurologists for the national telestroke program. The consultant neurologists will comprise a virtual "hub" that will be responsible for providing 24/7/365 acute stroke consultative care to VA emergency departments served by the telestroke program.

Duties

*****The first list of eligible applicants will be pulled for referral on 3-14-2017. Subsequent referrals will be made every two weeks after that date. Applications received after the first cut-off date, will be considered for the second cut-off, and so on throughout the life of the announcement and within your specific period of eligibility.

Work Schedule: On call rotation (Off hour shifts, weekends, and holidays per the on-call schedule)

Functional Statement Title/#: Physician (National Telestroke Program)

The Consultant Stroke Neurologist will be responsible for providing excellent, high quality care to Veterans served by the telestroke program. The Consultant Stroke Neurologist will use mobile technology to conduct neurologic evaluations, interpret neurological imaging, provide recommendations regarding diagnosis and treatment; and document patient care activities. The Consultant Stroke Neurologist is responsible for ensuring the medical functions he or she performs are in accordance with standards of care and basic operating procedures.

Duties include but are not limited to:

·         Acts as a consultant for stroke patients presenting to VA emergency departments participating in the telestroke network, for inpatients with onset of new stroke symptoms, and for limited follow-up consultation for post-stroke patients during the first 24-48 hours when needed.

·         Maintains appropriate documentation regarding patient care in VA's computerized record. Complies with all medical record documentation policies.

·         Participates in quality assurance programs
