The South Texas Veterans Health Care System (STVHCS) is comprised
of two inpatient campuses: the Audie L. Murphy Memorial VA Hospital in San
Antonio and the Kerrville VA Hospital in Kerrville, Texas. The STVHCS serves
one of the largest primary service areas in the nation, with 63 counties, and
is part of the VA Heart of Texas Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN 17),
with offices located in Arlington, Texas. Providing a service to Veterans with
a working staff of more than 3,100 employees, South Texas provides health care
services for 93,000 Veterans. The STVHCS is a facility providing primary,
secondary and tertiary health care in medicine, surgery, psychiatry, and
rehabilitation medicine. It also supports a 90 bed Extended Care Therapy
Center, a 30-bed Spinal Cord Injury Center, an eight-bed Bone Marrow Transplant
Unit, and a Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center. Affiliated with

The STVHCS is looking for a general Neurologist. Trainingin Epilepsy, Stroke and/or Neuromuscular is desirable but not required.The position is located at the Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital in San
Antonio, TX. If you are looking
to practice medicine where the patient's
needs are number one priority and not a profit margin, this is the position
for you. You will also have a great work/life
section has 5 other Neurologists with subspecialties in the areas of
Neuromuscular, Epilepsy, Movement Disorder, and Vascular Neurology.
The selected applicant can expect an Academic Appointment
with University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. You will be involved with teaching of fellows,
residents, and medical students. There
are also research opportunities available.
Clinical duties will include 20 hours per week for clinics. Appointments are scheduled for one hour for
new patients and 30 minutes for follow up appointments. The other 20 hours each week will be spent
on in-patient care, administrative duties, teaching and research.
Scope of Duties:
In addition to observances of Federal, National and local regulatory, policy, and accreditation requirements governing this Health Care System, this position encompasses the following examples of responsibilities overseen by their Section Chief.
Administrative Duties: Leadership, Human Resources, Staff management, Time/Leave management, and Clinical management.
Clinical Duties: Patient care, Medical/Clinical knowledge, Clinical judgment, Interpersonal and communication skills, Professionalism, and system based practice.
Education: Practitioners are expected to show effectiveness in teaching, monitor and coordinate educational activities, and comply with necessary trainee supervision.
Research Duties (If applicable): Physician researchers will show an ability to identify and define significant research and developmental problems, to plan and execute a precise research program, and to generate effective reports and results worthy of publication.
8:00am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday: Includes light on call schedule of 1 out of
every 6 weeks.
Physicians must have completed residency training or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
