The candidate will be part of the Neurology and Rehabilitation Service, a large interdisciplinary group of professionals that include neurologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, recreational therapists, physicians assistants, nurse practitioner, speech pathologist, and psychologist.  There is close working relationship with other hospital services, including Ambulatory Care, Geriatrics, Psychology, Psychiatry, Social Services, Nursing, Medical Service, and Surgery Service.  The Neuroscience Center clinic offers space and support for clinical assessments.  PT, OT, and TR gyms areas are available.

The Oklahoma City VAMC is seeking a full-time fellowship-trained Pain-Medicine specialist to lead our Interdisciplinary Pain Program.  The ideal candidate performs pain interventions within current standards of care, is interested in multifaceted care and rehabilitation of patients suffering from chronic pain.   The Pain Program is part of the Neurology & Rehabilitation Service.  There are ample opportunities to collaborate with other teams within the Neuro-Rehab Service, including TBI/Polytrauma, Spinal Cord Injury, Neurology and Rehabilitation services, as well as with other services such as Palliative Care, Ambulatory Care, Orthopedics, and Neurosurgery.  Upon joining us, the candidate will find a solid structure for assessment, care, and rehabilitation of patients with chronic pain, which includes Neurology, PM&R, Psychology, Therapeutic Recreation, Physical Therapy, Advanced Clinical Practitioners, Nursing, Ambulatory Care, and Spine Surgery (Orthopedics and Neurosurgery).  Candidate will work with interdisciplinary teams, who are personable and have a good sense of humor.  This is an excellent opportunity for a driven and upbeat individual who likes to work with people and see results.

Preferred qualifications:

Board Certified or Board Eligible in Pain Medicine, with primary board certification in Neurology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Anesthesiology, or other relevant specialty.  Ability to provide a full scope of  diagnostic services to persons with  chronic pain; supervise  trainees  and advanced clinical practitioners providers in the  pain clinics; ability to perform a full scope of pain intervention services within current standards of care,  and who can participate in various  pain team  activities  which include an Outpatient Pain Rehabilitation Program, a very active Pain Board, and the Pain Committee.

Academic Appointment:   Academic appointment will be with the Department of Neurology  at the  University of Oklahoma Health Science Center.  Academic ranking will be based on  educational experience and  clinical and/or research experience.

Nature of work:   20% administrative and  80% clinical.  Research time available.

Infrastructure:  Fluoroscopy  procedure room  is fully equipped for  pain interventions.  The Neuroscience Center clinic offers space and support for clinical assessments.  PT, OT, and TR gyms offer areas are available.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm  Occasional inpatient attending duties in Neurology and/or Rehabilitation.
