The Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS) for the Mental Health Department will serve as the Department head, overseeing  three (3) Programs (Behavioral Health Rehabilitation, Outpatient Program and Inpatient Program). 

The ACOS for Mental Health reports directly to the facility Chief of Staff.  The applicant will be expected to travel between both campuses and manage both clinical and administrative issues arising within its services/programs.

Duties

Duties to include but not limited to:

The Associate Chief of Staff (ACOS) for the Mental Health Department is a management position with responsibilities for all aspects of the Department and its underlying Programs. The incumbent will collaborate with the ACOS of Geriatrics & Extended Care (GEC) and the Associate Chief Nurse/GEC on related programs, e.g. dementia, VA Star.

The incumbent is responsible for the overall performance of all Programs under the Departments as set forth above.

The incumbent is expected to perform direct clinical care, a minimum of 8 hours/week in order to maintain clinical proficiency as determined by the Chief of Staff.

The incumbent will be a key member of the clinical leadership team and reports directly to the Chief of Staff.

The ACOS is responsible to ensure that high quality patient care is delivered in a resource efficient manner.  Responsibilities include the complete range of resource management including position management and budgeting.

The incumbent promotes an effective mix, coordination and support of clinical care by evaluating current and potential patient needs, clinical workload and resources, and special programs/mandates. 

He/she promotes and evaluates standards of clinical competence and conduct for staff which are maintained through compliance with the credentialing and privileging processes, monitoring and evaluation of clinical practice, peer review, and other appropriate quality assurance activities.

The successful candidate should possess experience in high level management. This experience is preferred in Inpatient and Outpatient Programs, Substance Abuse Programs and/or Suicide Prevention. He/she should have excellent leadership skills and should be knowledgeable and proficient with VA Performance Measures and the principles of System Redesign including implementation and promotion of clinic access and hospital flow.  

Completion of residency training and board certification in Psychiatry is preferred.

Salary: Salary is commensurate with experience and education. Applicant's education and experience will be reviewed by a Professional Standards Board and Compensation Panel (for physicians and dentists) in determining the salary of the applicant selected.  The recommended salary may be at any point in the range listed for this vacancy.

Physicians are covered under the Tort Claims Protection Act.
