    Responsibilities

    The Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System announces vacancies  for multiple full-time both Inpatient and Outpatient Unit psychiatrists:     We are looking for multiple self-motivated Psychiatrists to provide and lead proactive, recovery-oriented care for veterans in a team environment.  Best candidates will also possess veteran-patient specific experience.  These are full-time psychiatry positions (board eligible or board certified) for the Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System. The Gulf Coast Veterans Health Care System is a teaching site for the Tulane School of Medicine Psychiatry Residency and medical student training. Candidates for these positions should desire involvement in resident and medical student education and be suitable candidates for faculty appointments.

    Inpatient Psychiatrist Physicians:

    Provides direct care for inpatients manifesting a wide variety of serious psychiatric and psychosocial problems. The Inpatient Attending Psychiatrist has expertise in treating individuals with acute mood and/or psychotic disorders, PTSD, TBI, and other severe mental illness, often with comorbid substance use disorders. Responsibilities of the qualified Inpatient Psychiatrist Physician candidate include the following:

    ·         Works with interdisciplinary team members including other psychiatrists, physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, psychologists, social workers, addiction therapists, physician assistants, and clerks.

    ·         Provides initial psychiatric assessment of patients admitted to the psychiatric unit, documents clinical activity appropriately in the medical record, and shares responsibility for patient management with interdisciplinary team.

    ·         Serves as the team leader of the interdisciplinary treatment team and provides clinical supervision to psychiatry residents and medical students.

    ·         As time permits, may participate in research and education projects. Depending on fluctuating staffing patterns and workloads, may be assigned to other programs within psychiatry.

    ·         Call schedule availability.  Call coverage is from home and occurs on average one week out of every six weeks, usually consisting of telephone consultation.

    Consultation-Liaison Psychiatrist:

    Responsibilities of the qualified candidate will include the following:

    ·         Develops consultation/liaison relationships with clinicians throughout the hospital.

    ·         Responds to routine, acute, or emergency consultation requests from the admission area, inpatient medical/surgical units, ICU, extended care, on-site nursing home, and emergency department.

    ·         Serves as clinical lead for the consultation/liaison Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, as well as supervises psychiatry residents and medical students.

    ·         As time permits, may participate in research and education projects. Depending on fluctuating staffing patterns and workloads, may be assigned to other programs within psychiatry.

    ·         Call schedule availability.  Call coverage is from home and occurs on average one week out of every six weeks, usually consisting of telephone consultation.

    Note: The duty station, based upon the needs of the health care system, may require the individual to work from other facilities (e.g., Biloxi, Mississippi, Mobile Outpatient Clinic, Alabama; Eglin Outpatient Clinic, Florida;Joint Ambulatory Care Center Pensacola
