This position is located in the Behavioral Health Outpatient Services department at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center in Albany, NY. The incumbent will provide weekend coverage of psychiatry services. This includes coverage of inpatient psychiatric unit, admission of new patients, rounding on inpatients, as well as consultation to medical surgery floors and on occasion to ED. Physician will also be expected to cover institution call needs by telephone and utilize home access as possible for review of patient clinical information and order entry.  On site responsibilities will range from 8 – 15 hours.

Duties include:

Team leadership and providing integrated patient care in multiple inpatient and outpatient settings

Awareness, implementation, and maintenance of JAHCO and VA guidelines for psychiatric care

Staffing specialty clinics, i.e. clozaril, suboxone based on the needs of the facility

Provision of evidence and community based assessment and care of psychiatric patients including current pharmacologic and other standard therapeutic treatments

Provides active supervision and teaching for Albany Medical Center psychiatric residents and other trainees as needed.

Participating in quality improvement initiatives and outcome data initiatives

Providing patient and family health education With a focus on self-management, prevention and wellness based on the patient's goals.

Ordering, conducting, supervising and interpreting diagnostic and laboratory tests. Provision of inpatient consultations to Medicine/Surgery, Emergency Room, Geriatrics and other services based on the needs of the institution

Mentoring, educating, and disseminating information regarding current clinical practices as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Timely completion of clinical documentation

Completion of education requirements

Provision of Telepsychiatry services as needed

Provides on call duties as assigned

Other clinical duties as assigned by Chief of Psychiatry

Tour of Duty: Tour of Duty will consist of 8- 15 hrs Fri, Sat, Sunday, and Holidays services.
