The Malcolm Randall VA Medical Center is currently recruiting for one (1) part-time Physician, assigned to the Psychiatry section, Behavioral Medicine Service as a Psychiatrist-Inpatient Psychiatry Service.

This position is a full-time Physician located at the Malcom Randall VA Medical Center, assigned to the Psychiatry section, Behavioral Medicine Service as a Psychiatrist – Inpatient Psychiatry service. The primary purpose of the position is to provide behavioral health services for Veteran patients admitted to the inpatient psychiatry service, however services may also be provided in other areas of the medical center as well(i.e., medical inpatient, Emergency Department, Community Living Center and Residential Rehabilitation Treatment, etc.). On-call services are required. Participation in supervision and teaching in support of the psychiatric residency program is also expected. The selectee reports to the Chief, Behavioral Medicine Service or their designee. Duties include, but are not limited to:

·     Provides general adult psychiatric care, conducting diagnostic evaluations, psychiatric consults, medication management, and individual or group psychotherapy.

·     Provides direct clinical supervision of advanced practice nurses or physician assistants and other staff as appropriate. 

·     Serves a population which consists of male and female Veterans of all ages and common diagnoses include anxiety disorders, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Major Depression and other mood disorders, Substance Use Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, and other Serious Mental Illnesses, Dementias, and mental disorder related to Traumatic Brain Injuries.    

·     Establishes professional working relationships with other clinical service providers within the medical center and outlying clinics, provide telephone and e-consult consultations as needed

·     Cooperates with and participate in medical duties or functions related to quality of care, peer review and with other performance improvement activities as directed. 

·     Provides prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to veterans in need of psychiatric services.

·     Documents observations, assessments, and changes in patient's condition; collaborating with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes;

·     Provides a full range of psychiatric care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavior problems;

·     Possess good organizational skills which enable completion of work, a demonstrated ability to assume leadership in a patient centered program, and the ability to establish effective communication with patients, families, visitors and members of the interdisciplinary team.

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
