Duties

The Mountain Home Veterans Affairs Healthcare System seeks a psychiatrist, board certified or board eligible within two years of residency graduation, to serve full-time in the outpatient Mental Health Clinic.   The clinic currently consists of a multidisciplinary staff to include psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, psychologist or social workers and nurses.  The psychiatrists on staff work in a variety of settings which include outpatient, inpatient, consultation-liaison, emergency department, community living center, residential rehabilitation, addiction (including buprenorphine clinic) and mental health intensive case management team.  The ideal candidate  would work primarily in the outpatient clinic, with the possibility of occasional temporary assignments as needed to other areas in the  service.  Typical duties include performing psychiatric assessments and aftercare visits utilizing pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy.  The psychiatrist would participate in a multidisciplinary setting for the development of treatment plans and case supervision.  The treated conditions can include, among other things, PTSD, mood and anxiety disorders, psychotic disorders, neurocognitive disorders and substance use disorders. 

Clinical supervision of resident psychiatrists and nurse practitioners is expected.  The psychiatrist will be part of the psychiatry department's call system, providing telephone based supervision to on-call resident psychiatrists approximately one weekday night per month, and providing both on-site inpatient rounding and telephone supervision to resident psychiatrists approximately one weekend day per month.  The psychiatrist will be expected to develop proficiency in the use of telehealth equipment for the provision of psychiatric care at a distance.   Training is provided. Additional assigned administrative duties, such as participation in committees, is likely.

The psychiatrist will be eligible, if desired, for clinical appointment to the Department of Psychiatry at the affiliated Quillen College of Medicine.  The option to become involved in medical student and resident psychiatrist didactics is available .

Work Schedule: 07:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., on call, with possible extended hours.  Tour at the discretion of ACOS Mental Health.
