North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System is seeking one (1) full-time Psychiatrist. The selectee will be assigned to the  Mental Health Service Line-Outpatient Psychiatry Service.


The primary purpose of the position is to provide behavioral health services for Veteran outpatients with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, however services may also be provided in other  areas of the medical center as well (i.e., medical inpatient, Emergency Department, Community Living Center and Residential Rehabilitation Treatment, etc.).  On-call services are required. Participation in supervision and teaching in support of the psychiatric residency program is also expected. Duties include, but are not limited to:

·     Provides general adult psychiatric care, conducting diagnostic evaluations, psychiatric consults, medication management, and individual or group psychotherapy;

·     Provides direct clinical supervision of advanced practice nurses or physician assistants and other staff as appropriate. 

·     Serves a population which consists of male and female Veterans of all ages and common diagnoses include anxiety disorders, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Major Depression and other mood disorders, Substance Use Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, and other Serious Mental Illnesses, Dementias, and mental disorder related to Traumatic Brain Injuries.    

·     Establishes professional working relationships with other clinical service providers within the medical center and outlying clinics, provide telephone and e-consult consultations as needed

·     Cooperates with and participate in medical duties or functions related to quality of care, peer review and with other performance improvement activities as directed. 

·     Provides prescribed medical treatment and personal care services to veterans in need of psychiatric services.

·     Documents observations, assessments, and changes in patient's condition; collaborating with health team members to facilitate positive patient care outcomes;

·     Provides a full range of psychiatric care to patients with a variety of physical and/or behavior problems; ·     Accounts for meeting and maintaining the qualification standards of assigned specialty.

·     Coordinates the overall mental health care of veterans with PTSD.

·     Uses a computerized patient record system for progress notes, orders, prescriptions, and medical record review, among other actions.

·      Abides by Medical Center Staff Bylaws, VHA Rules and Regulations, and familiarization with clinical guidelines.

·     Works in other areas of the hospital as needed in education, research, and/or leadership roles.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. -4:30 p.m.
