    The Defense Health Agency, National Capital Region Medical Directorate (NCR-MD) is the future of Military Medicine- a partnership in World Class Medical Healthcare. The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE), Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, Dilorenzo Clinic and the Joint Pathology Center, provide world class medical services to the nation's service members and their families.

    About the Position:
    This position is located in the Department of Behavioral Health Acute and Outpatient Services, Service of Adult Outpatient Behavioral Health at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, MD. Parking at WRNMMC is limited and by permit only. Commuting via mass transit is encouraged and in close proximity to the installation. Employees may be placed on a parking pass waiting list if desired.

    This position will be expected to participate in providing on-call coverage as required.

    This position serves as a staff psychiatrist performing the full range of clinical services for beneficiaries suffering from a wide variety of complex behavioral health conditions. As a member of a multi-disciplinary treatment team, the employee will provide professional consultation, and collaboration with other professional and paraprofessional staff in an outpatient treatment setting. May participate in Psychiatry Residency and Fellowship training programs at the discretion of senior leadership.

    Physician (Psychiatrist) serves as an expert in the field of Psychiatry. Performs duties as a practitioner and consultant in Psychiatry with emphasis of all levels of complexity, providing treatment services in any capacity; including, but not limited to inpatient services, partial hospitalization services, intensive outpatient services, routine outpatient services and consultation liaison services. Assignments are performed in accordance with Medical Treatment Facility (MTF) regulations, policies and procedures. Responsible for providing treatment services, and performing the full range of clinical treatments, including consultation, evaluation and treatment of emergency, complex and routine cases in the field of Psychiatry. Provides routine, intensive, complex and emergency intakes and extended evaluations for a variety of emotional, psychological, and behavioral disorders. Provides appropriate referrals to other medical and mental health care providers in and outside of Medical Treatment Facility (MTF). Employee provides inpatient care and/or follow-up care for patients with chronic or acute disorders and complications of these disorders, such as psychosis, organic brain syndrome, substance abuse/addictions, etc. and provides psychiatric care for walk-in patients presenting with acute illnesses of minor and major proportions. The employee is expected to exercise initiative and sound judgment in establishing evaluation techniques, developing treatment and rehabilitation plans and providing appropriate therapeutic treatment services. Participates in the hospital approved behavioral health training programs. Oversees psychiatric fellows, residents, interns and medical students in the area of responsibility. Provides professional consultation, education, and collaborative medical support to other professional staff, interdisciplinary teams such as psychologists, advanced practice nurses, social workers and non behavioral health medical providers, as well as military specific liaison/consultation with commanders, agencies and programs. Participates in the quality assurance studies, utilization review, risk management, and peer review activities. Ensures that the highest standards of professional practice and ethics are maintained; established operating policies are adhered to; staff personnel receive the necessary professional training; medical records are properly safeguarded and maintained; and that all required reports are prepared and submitted in a timely manner. Prepares and maintains convenience file, outpatient medical record, and inpatient record documentation in accordance with service and hospital Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
