About the Position:

  • Medical malpractice liability insurance is not required for federal civilian healthcare providers as they are covered by the Federal Tort Claims Act (28 U.S.C. § 1346(b)) while acting within the scope of their employment.
  • This position is for the Embedded Behavioral Health (EBH) initiative in the Behavioral Health Department. This work involves treating soldiers with a broad range of behavioral health concerns in specific combat divisions at various locations around the world.
  • Fort Drum, home of the 10th Mountain Division, is located in Northern New York's picturesque North County. As one of the most historically unique and geographically beautiful areas of the United States, the area offers bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities such as hunting, fishing, boating, sailing, scuba diving, white water rafting, and winter sports of all types. Fort Drum borders Lake Ontario, the St. Lawrence River, Canada, the Adirondack Mountains, and Vermont. Guthrie Army Health Center is located at Fort Drum, New York, near the city of Watertown. Watertown is located in the scenic 1,000 lakes region of upstate New York. Museums and historic points of interest include the War of 1812 Battlefield in Sackets Harbor, Boldt Castle, Millionaire's Row, the Antique Boat Museum, lighthouses, Burrville Cider Mill, the Clayton Opera House, and the Jefferson County Historical Society. Additionally, the area provides quaint downtown shopping, on-the-water dining, and family amusements that make Watertown a great place to live.
  • The Department of Behavioral Health consists of four Embedded Behavioral Health Teams, the Child and Family Behavioral Health System, the Family Advocacy Program, the Traumatic Brain Injury Rehabilitation Clinic, and Substance Use Disorder Clinic. The department has over 120 employees in seven different buildings to provide exceptional behavioral health care to Soldiers and Family members.

Duties

As a Physician (Psychiatry), you will:

  • Perform duties of a Practitioner and Consultant in Psychiatry with emphasis on problems of all levels
    of complexity to provide treatment services in any capacity.
  • Make recommendations on major diagnostic and treatment plans.
  • Provide follow-up care for chronic inpatient and outpatient with acute disorders and complications of
    these disorders, such as psychosis, organic brain syndrome, substance abuse/addictions, etc.
  • Prescribe appropriate treatment or referring patients to appropriate specialty clinics.
