    OUR MISSION: To fulfill President Lincoln's promise – "To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan" – by serving and honoring the men and women who are America's Veterans.

    The Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS), is comprised of two large Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers located in Temple and Waco, a large stand-alone multi-specialty outpatient clinic in Austin, four outpatient clinics located in Brownwood, Bryan/College Station, Cedar Park, and Palestine plus a rural outreach clinic in La Grange.

    CTVHCS has affiliation agreements with Texas A&M College of Medicine/Baylor-Scott and White Healthcare System, the University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School, and the Texas Department of State Health Services. More than 250 Residents and Fellows are trained annually at CTHVCS, plus more than 200 medical students per year. Over 100 CTVHCS medical staff have faculty appointments with Texas A&M College of Medicine.

    Responsibilities

    This is a Bargaining Unit Position.

    Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Alternate Compressed Tour Negotiable). Some weekends and holidays maybe required.

    Position Description: Physician (Psychiatry)

    Duties:

    The incumbent will be assigned to the Mental Health and Behavioral Medicine (MH&BM) Service in Austin, Texas. The incumbent will be under the supervision of the Chief, MH&BM, Austin Outpatient Clinic. The incumbent will provide psychiatric services to patients seeking treatment in the General Mental Health Clinic.

    ·         Primary responsibilities will be diagnostic assessment, medication management and coordination of care for individuals with serious mental illnesses, including Major Depressive Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, PTSD and Substance Use Disorders as well as co-morbid medical conditions.

    ·         Facilitate transfers to the Waco Inpatient Psychiatry Unit for those Veterans requiring acute psychiatric hospitalization.

    ·         Research opportunities are available and encouraged. It will be expected that the incumbent will support research and training activities including those at the Center of Excellence.

    ·         Performs teaching activities and supervision of psychiatry residents and medical students, as available. ·         Maintains an academic appointment with the Texas A&M Health Science Center College of Medicine Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science.

    ·         Opportunity for faculty appointment at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School may become available.

    ·         The incumbent will provide collaborative support to Pharmacy Doctorate level prescribers and residents, as assigned.

    ·         The incumbent will provide collaborative support for Advanced Practice Nurses and/or Physician Assistants, as assigned.

    IF PATIENT NEEDS ARISE, THE INCUMBENT OF THE ABOVE POSITION MAY BE REASSIGNED WITHIN THE CENTRAL TEXAS VETERANS HEALTH CARE SYSTEM.
