The Central Texas Veterans Health Care System (CTVHCS), is comprised of two large Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) medical centers located in Temple and Waco, a large stand-alone multi-specialty outpatient clinic in Austin, four outpatient clinics located in Brownwood, Bryan/College Station, Cedar Park, and Palestine plus a rural outreach clinic in La Grange.

CTVHCS has affiliation agreements with Texas A&M College of Medicine/Baylor-Scott and White Healthcare System, the University of Texas Southwestern/Seton Healthcare Network, and the Texas Department of State Health Services. More than 250 Residents and Fellows are trained annually at CTHVCS, plus more than 200 medical students per year. Over 100 CTVHCS medical staff have faculty appointments with Texas A&M College of Medicine.

This is an open continuous announcement which will remain open until 9/15/2017 This vacancy has multiple cut-off dates, with the 1st Cut-off date being 10/2/2016 and subsequent cut-offs every 14 days. Management retains the right to make additional selections as positions become available.


This is a bargaining unit position

This position is located in Temple, Texas. The incumbent will be assigned to Mental Health and Behavioral Medicine (MH&BM) Service, and provide psychiatric services to the Temple site.

·    The primary responsibilities will be in the assessment, management, and coordination of care 

     for individuals with mental illnesses, including Veterans with serious mental illnesses such as   
     Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

·    Calls are infrequent (1:17), light and may be by phone.

·    Compressed/Alternate tours of duties (3-4 day week), involving some half day Saturday hours are
     available and encouraged.

·    The incumbent will be under the supervision of Supervisory Psychiatrist, Temple campus.

·    The incumbent will perform teaching activities and supervision of fellows, residents, and
     medical students, as available.

·    The incumbent will maintain an academic appointment with the Texas A&M College of
     Medicine Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Science.

·    Research opportunities are available and encouraged. Interest and expertise in management
     of chronic, serious mental illnesses is preferred, including an interest in the provision of
     both pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy.

·    Board certification is not required but preferred

TOUR OF DUTY: Compressed/alternate tours, involving evenings and weekends are available and are encouraged
