RESPONSIBILITIES

As an Physician (Public Health) you will:\n-Serves as the Program Director and/or CDC Country Director or Special Advisor.\n-Develop and direct the implementation of special initiatives funded Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)supported activities in assigned overseas location.\n-Be involved in all technical areas of interest, in the assigned overseas location, strategic information and epidemiologic surveillance and health economics, systems and capacity development.\n-Oversee all program staff assigned to the overseas location.\n-Provide oversight and accountability for the utilization of US Government resources allocated to the assigned overseas location.\n-Represent program on the US Government interagency team.\n-Direct the program's provision of strategic technical assistance to the Ministry of Health and other partners.\n-Maintain productive technical collaborations with all institutions engaged in program activities, including the Ministry of Health, non-governmental organizations, universities, medical institutions and other partners.

Drug Screening Required: Positions requiring a top secret or secret clearance will be required to be drug tested. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Basic Requirements:
Applicants must possess a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association http://www.ama-assn.org/councils/council-medical-education/about-council-medical-education; Association of American Medical Colleges http://www.aamc.org/; Liaison Committee on Medical Education http://www.chea.org/liaison-committee-medical-education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association http://osteopathic.org/accreditation/, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education http://ope.ed.gov/dapip/#/home at the time the degree was obtained. A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) http://www.ecfmg.org/(http://www.ecfmg.org , a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination. Licensure:
Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada.
-An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) http://www.acgme.org/.

-A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training. Additional Requirements:
In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements, applicants must also meet the following for a Physician, GP-15. For GP-15: Five years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training. OR
Experience: Applicants must possess at least one year of experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service directing scientific, technical and programmatic medical activities to originate new techniques, establish criteria, or develop new information. Documenting Experience: In accordance with Office of Personnel Management policy, federal employees are assumed to have gained experience by performing duties and responsibilities appropriate for their official series and grade level as described in their position description. Experience that would not normally be part of the employee's position is creditable, however, when documented by satisfactory evidence, such as a signed memorandum from the employee's supervisor or an SF-50 or SF-52 documenting an official detail or other official assignment. The documentation must indicate whether the duties were performed full time or, if part time, the percentage of times the other duties were performed. It is expected that this documentation is included in the employee's official personnel record. In order to receive credit for experience in your resume that is not within the official series and grade level of your official position, you must provide a copy of the appropriate documentation of such experience as indicated above. -Overseas Assignments: Overseas assignments are for two years. The assignment may be extended based on the needs of the agency. Upon completion of the overseas assignment, CDC employees on temporary promotion/reassignment will be placed in accordance with CDC placement procedures. Subsequent employment for all others for CDC positions must be through the appropriate competitive process or special employment program hiring authorities.
-Potential selectees will remain in a different location, whether domestic or international, from the specific advertised position location. This is to complete the required training and security and/or medical clearances.

-Immunizations are required and will be administered by the CDC before relocating overseas.
-To work overseas for the CDC, the selectee will need to obtain security and medical clearances before being cleared to report to the overseas duty station.
