    Summary

    Embark on a management level career opportunity as the Surgery/GI Chief for the VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System, serving at the Leavenworth or Topeka facilities. EKHCS is a complexity 1c facility and has robust Inpatient and Outpatient Treatment Programs including Acute Medical Inpatient, ICU/PCU, Acute Psychiatry/ Mental Health Rehab beds and three community living centers. We offer comprehensive Outpatient Physical Medicine and Rehab, Mental Health, Geriatrics and Prosthetics. We do extensive community outreach and placement.

    Responsibilities

    This announcement is for two (2) positions as the Surgery/GI Chief.  One position will be located at the Leavenworth (Dwight D. Eisenhower) VAMC, and the other will be at the Topeka (Colmery-O’Neil) VAMC.

    •Responsible for overall operation, oversight and performance measures of all Surgery & Surgical Specialties operations at the VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System.

    •Responsibilities include planning, developing and directing administrative and clinic functions of the Surgery and Surgical Specialty service.

    •Candidates must possess the skills to interact positively with the VA Eastern Kansas Health Care System's leadership team to lead and promote surgical staff excellence, staff development, with experience in an academic setting.

    •This position provides administrative, clinical, and programmatic leadership for the service to ensure achieved performance measures.

    •Oversight of the inpatient acute care surgery ward which is a combined medical/surgical ward, medical surgical intensive care unit, outpatient subspecialty clinics, gastroenterology and includes clinical practice and may have oversight responsibility for residents.

    •The position reports directly to the Deputy Chief of Staff and serves as a clinical resource for the Executive Leadership Team.  Outstanding interpersonal skills are essential, as the successful candidate will lead a multidisciplinary staff in the delivery of excellent health care to our nation's Veterans.

    •The Surgery/GI Chief will be expected to practice within their medical specialty at an intermediate complexity level, in addition to fulfilling administrative responsibilities, be on call, as well as take calls.

    •The qualified candidate is board-certified, and in good standing, with the American Board of Medical Specialties in Surgery or a Surgical Subspecialty.  Incumbent will maintain a current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certifications.

    Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm
