The Iron Mountain VA Medical Center (http://www.ironmountain.va.gov/) is located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and is part of the VA's Great Lakes Health Care System in the Veteran's Integrated Service Network (VISN 12). The medical center and its community clinics serve eligible veterans in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (fifteen counties) and Northeast Wisconsin (eleven counties).

This facility employs state-of-the-art telemedicine technology, and is a leader in rural health care delivery in VHA. Ambulatory and acute primary and secondary health care is provided in areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, non-invasive cardiology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics, and extended care. We are part of the Veterans Integrated Services Network (VISN 12) which includes facilities in Milwaukee, Madison, Tomah, WI; and Chicago, Hines and North Chicago, IL. Outpatient clinics are located in Ironwood, Marquette, Hancock, Menominee, Manistique, and Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; and Rhinelander, WI.

Duties

The Urgent Care Center at the OGJVA Medical Center provides non-emergent medical care on a walk-in basis without appointment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in a varied clinical area. The Section Chief provides leadership and direction for the staff and its programs. Patients seen in Urgent Care will be triaged to determine the appropriate course of action and/or referred to an alternate level of care as needed. Afterhours, the physician also responds to respiratory and cardiac emergencies on the inpatient ward.

The Section Chief should have a diversified background and expertise in the treatment of complex, complicated chronic conditions as well as acute medical conditions. Must type proficiently, understand the electronic medical record, and have the ability to know and understand multiple computer packages, i.e. Pharmacy (ordering medications), radiology (ordering studies), etc. The Section Chief must be proficient in oral and written communication, and possess excellent clinical and people skills.
