    VA Connecticut Healthcare System was officially formed in 1995. We serve veterans in Connecticut and southern New England. The West Haven facility is a tertiary care facility classified as a Clinical Referral Level I Facility. It is a teaching hospital, providing a full range of patient care services, with state-of-the-art technology and a renowned research program. Comprehensive health care is provided through primary, acute, tertiary and long-term care in areas of medicine, surgery, psychiatry, physical medicine and rehabilitation, neurology, oncology, dentistry, geriatrics and extended care. Newington is an ambulatory care center that provides primary and specialty care. In addition to our main campuses, we operate six community-based primary care centers throughout the state.

    VACT is seeking a full-time Program Specialist for our Voluntary Services Department.  The incumbent will be the primary representative regarding Fisher House matters.  Duties include but are not limited to the following.

    ·   The incumbent supervises approximately two (2) personnel

    ·   Oversees and ensures contract employee requirements are met according to the guidelines established in the Statement of Work

    ·   Plans and assigns work to be accomplished by subordinates

    ·   Makes decisions on work problems presented by subordinates and sets priorities and schedules

    ·   Makes selections for non-supervisory positions

    ·   Evaluates employees and reviews decisions made by them

    ·   Reviews serious disciplinary cases and problems involving key employees

    ·   Oversees the day-to-day operation of the FH to include creating and maintaining a staffing schedule, creating and maintaining an activity calendar and scheduling transportation for patients and families

    ·   Coordinates with the facility Public Affairs Officer for any public affairs issues

    ·   Conducts Fisher House tours, some on short notice to visiting dignitaries from federal agencies and nationally recognized organizations

    ·   Participates in planning meetings involving current and future facilities

    ·   Receives donations from public or private donors of expendable and non-expendable/durable items

    ·   Tracks donations in the VSS system

    ·   Builds and manages workforce, to include employees, contractors and volunteers based on program goals, budget considerations and staffing that optimally provides coverage for the needs of the Fisher House program and guests

    ·   Monitors expenditures and uses cost benefit thinking to set priorities

    ·   Demonstrates cultural diversity awareness and sensitivity

    Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30pm/ evenings, weekends and holidays as needed
