    This position is located at the Martinsburg, WV VA Medical Center in VISN 5. The Martinsburg VA medical center is a Level 1C complexity facility providing care to our Nation's Veterans. The medical center provides comprehensive health care through primary care, inpatient medicine, surgery, psychiatric, domiciliary, and a long-term care unit. Martinsburg, WV VA Medical Center has seven Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) located in Cumberland, MD, Hagerstown, MD, Fort Detrick, MD, Harrisonburg, VA, Stephens City, VA, Petersburg, WV and Franklin WV.

    Responsibilities

    The Psychiatrist will provide psychiatrist care in the Mental Health Clinic for the Martinsburg VA Medical Center (VAMC). Duties include but are not limited to the following:

    • clinical services are provided by a physician who has completed residence training in Psychiatry, and must be qualified to diagnose, treat and manage patients with mental illness according to standard, usual, and acceptable methods and techniques
    • performing initial clinical diagnostic examinations and formulating initial treatment plans for patients
    • providing medication management services
    • provision of psychotherapy services is restricted to physicians who are trained, certified and credentialed in the provision of VA evidence based therapy practices
    • coordinating medical care for mental health clinic patients requiring primary care follow up, or specialty/medical/surgical consultation
    • facilitating admission to inpatient MH unit
    • coordinating care with inpatient Psychiatric or Medical/Surgical physicians
    • serving on Medical Staff Committees, or representing the MHS on special Medical Center projects or initiatives as directed by MHS management
    • performing Compensation and Pension exams/reviews with proper orientation and training
      performing other duties as assigned including: supporting a speciality care clinic (E.G., Clozaril, Suboxone), evaluations and medication management in the substance abuse treatment program (including Suboxone), serving in the PTSD program and participating in a research project
      successfully practicing as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, working collaboratively in a respectful fashion with nurses, social workers, clerks, mid-level providers and other physicians
      other duties as assigned

    Work Schedule: M-F 8:00 am to 4:30 pm - On Call is required
